I rented some movies this weekend and today I watched the Spiderwick Chronicles. With Freddie Highmore playing the role of Jared and Simon in the film. If you like fantastical worlds of fairies and goblins then this movie is for you. It is a magical film with some pretty amazing secrets if you delve into the Special Features on the Double Disc Set. The cast is award winning, with Mary Louise Parker, Freddie Highmore, Nick Nolte and Joan Plowright, Seth Rogan, Sara Bolger and Martin Short as “Thimbletack.”
A very enjoyable film. If you take the time to rent it or buy it the Special Features will give you hours of pleasure. Freddie is best known as the boy in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and his role as ‘Pantalaimon’ in The Golden Compass.

I didn’t know who Freddie Highmore was or that he played two characters in this movie until I watched the special features, and I kept thinking to myself, “Well the twin who plays Jared is definitely a better actor than the other who plays Simon.” I thought he looked like the boy in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ but then reconsidered when I saw the ‘twin’ and he spoke with an American accent. All this to say that, in the end, either Freddie Highmore is an amazing actor or I’m just plain stupid. I, personally, are leaning toward the latter.
